So Many Decisions: Cabinets

Everyone who remodels a house says it: there are so. many. decisions. Nik warned me, but because I am typically a decisive person, I didn’t think it would be a problem. But, man... the relentless decision-making is real.
Most recent decision: kitchen cabinets. As I type this, I am sitting (for the fourth time now) in Sincere Home Decor in downtown Oakland, with the world’s most patient sales rep/designer, David. I’m here approving the final order of our kitchen cabinets.

Cabinets are proving to be the single biggest expenditure (other than the house itself!) in the remodel - coming in at over $10k.

And that’s with us saving the existing wall cabinets, and doing the installation ourselves! At least the cabinets we are buying are made in Ohio, so I can feel good about boosting the US economy.

Decisions to make so far have included:
- which design software to use to mock up the design (I tried IKEA’s, and MOD Cabinetry’s, until my old RSI flared up)
- where to put the new French doors
- where to put the new back door
- what kind of flooring to put in the kitchen
- what to use for a countertop material.
I’ll leave the countertop decision for a blog post all its own.
